  • Tim joined a Kent grammar school as an NQT history teacher in 1987 and was promoted the following year to be Head of Department.

  • In 1992 he moved to a highly successful comprehensive school on the outer London/Essex border as Head of History, later being promoted to become Head of Upper School.

  • Tim moved back to his native Lincolnshire in 1999 as deputy head of a rural grammar school and was invited by the governors to become Headmaster two years later. The “good” school became “outstanding” in all areas and remains consistently one of the highest performing schools in Lincolnshire and the East Midlands.

  • In 2013 he was invited to become Principal of an academy based on one of the largest council estates in the country, situated in the London Borough Hackney, the second most deprived borough in the capital. Despite a “good” Ofsted rating, the academy suffered from appalling pupil behaviour, falling roles and extremely low staff morale – 40% of teachers had quit in the previous three years. The academy was “transformed” (Ofsted, 2017) to become an oversubscribed school of choice, with GCSE results consistently above, or significantly above, the national average, and it gained an enviable reputation for pastoral care, pupil behaviour and its commitment to the development of the whole child.

“Six years of outstanding leadership….. The governors would like to record their sincere thanks to Tim for his total commitment to the Academy over the last six years. During this time, under Tim’s leadership, the Academy has been transformed into an ordered, purposeful and happy community…. Tim has fulfilled his vision of creating a truly great school where every child can achieve, regardless of background and ability, and where the whole person can grow…..All involved with the Academy acknowledge Tim as a Principal of absolute integrity and loyalty and owe him an immense debt of gratitude.”                                                                                                                                                                                                                         Public statement from the Governing Body, 2019
